The sixth episode of Season 3 is dedicated to sustainable small-scale fisheries, a sector that is vital around the world for food security, livelihoods and marine stewardship. We ask what can be done to amplify the voices of small-scale fishers among other marine users and what it takes to empower fishing communities in policy-making. Meet Nicole Franz from the FAO Fishery Division’s Equitable Livelihoods Team and hear how the FAO Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries have already made a difference. Listen to Aliou Sall, Director of the NGO Le Centre de Recherche pour le développement des technologies intermédiaires de pêche (CREDETIP) in Senegal, as he shares his view from the ground and explains why small-scale fisheries are so often overlooked. We also discuss examples of successful co-management and explore what else is needed to secure sustainable practices.
