Vision of the MeerWissen Community

‘The MeerWissen Community is a growing community, which produces and shares sound knowledge,
apt methodologies and innovative tools to promote science to policy processes for the sustainable
management of Africa's marine and coastal habitats and resources.’

The MeerWissen Community supports the sharing of news from the ocean science-policy nexus. This includes sharing regular updates from the MeerWissen partnership projects and collating successful cases of science to policy communication. Thus, the Community contributes to achieving knowledge-based decisions for the conservation and management of Africa’s ocean and coasts. Formats include the MeerWissen website, a newsletter, sharing relevant upcoming events as well as an internal networking space for MeerWissen project partners. For the future, additional virtual and face-to-face exchanges as well as a diverse and open community with defined topics are envisioned.

The MeerWissen kick-off workshop saw all MeerWissen project partners from Africa and Germany come together. All projects highlighted the desire to establish a community which promotes internal and external communication. The Community provides a space to exchange knowledge, share lessons learned, receive feedback on activities and ask for advice.

Exchange among MeerWissen project partners

Partners involved in projects supported by MeerWissen use this space to share recent developments, exchange lessons learned, plan joint activities, develop publications together, receive advice from fellow partners and discuss jointly how to move forward in the science to policy transfer of knowledge.
