Held under the theme “Achieving a healthy ocean – Regional ocean governance beyond 2020”, the first Marine Regions Forum took place from 30 September – 2 October 2019 in Berlin. It provided an opportunity for informal exchange and dialogue between decision-makers, scientists, and civil society from the world’s marine regions. The Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and GIZ co-hosted the session “Building regional science-policy interfaces”, which featured inputs on existing science-policy interfaces in different regions, with a focus on the Northeast Atlantic and Western Indian Ocean. The BMZ presented MeerWissen and its approach to support the uptake of scientific results into marine management in Africa.
